SHAFR historian Luke A. Nichter (Texas A&M University – Central Texas), who was the co-recipient with Douglas Brinkley of the 2017 SHAFR Link-Kuehl Prize for Documentary Editing for The Nixon Tapes, has now also been recognized by the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Public Scholar Program. He received $50,400 for research and writing on a new biography of Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.
M. Todd Bennett (East Carolina University) received a $50,400 grant from the NEH Public Scholar Program for Howard Hughes, the CIA, and the Untold Story Behind Their Hunt for a Sunken Soviet Submarine, a book exploring "exploring intelligence oversight and accountability though a narrative account of the covert 1974 CIA operation to use Howard Hughes’s ship Glomar Explorer to raise a sunken Soviet submarine.
