Online registration for the 2016 conference has closed
Fees for the conference are $85 standard or $35 student, K-12 teacher, or adjunct faculty until June 1. On June 1 registration fees increase to $105 standard or $50 student, K-12 teacher, or adjunct faculty. Please note: all participants on the program must be current SHAFR members. If you need to renew your membership or you are not yet a member, please click here. Registrants who are not participants on this year's program are not required to be SHAFR members, but we encourage you to check us out anyway!

The Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice (KIPJ) building, home to the Kroc School of Peace Studies, is an elegant Spanish Renaissance style conference and meeting venue located on the southwest bluff of the USD campus. Lush gardens and terraces with spectacular views of San Diego’s Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean surround the building. Wireless internet service will be available throughout the building. Coffee, drinks, and light fare are available during conference hours at the on-site La Paloma café. There are also multiple dining options at the University Center, a 7-minute walk or 2-minute tram ride from the building. Parking on campus is free.
Driving directions to the KIPJ building:
From the North: Use I-5 South, exit Sea World Dr./Tecolote Rd.
- Proceed left at stoplight toward Morena Blvd.
- Turn right on Morena
- Turn left on Napa
- Turn left on Linda Vista Rd.
- Travel to the first stoplight to USD's west entrance, turn left and enter campus.
From the South (or the airport): Use I-5 North, exit Morena Blvd. (signs will say: Morena Blvd. use I-8 East)
- Stay to the right and follow the signs for Morena Blvd.
- Take the first right onto Linda Vista Rd.
- Travel to the second stoplight to USD's west entrance, turn left and enter campus.
From the East: Use I-8 West, exit at Morena Blvd.
- Turn right onto Linda Vista Rd.
- Travel to the second stoplight to USD's west entrance, turn left and enter campus.
Parking: Parking is free throughout the conference. Guests must obtain a guest permit from the west entrance kiosk on Thursday and Friday. Permits are not required on Saturday. Parking is available in the West Parking Structure or West Parking Lot.

The Best Western PLUS Hacienda Hotel is a 3-Diamond property located in the heart of Old Town. The Old Town Tequila Factory Restaurant on the premises serves Mexican and American cuisine, and Jack and Giulio’s Restaurant for Italian cuisine is just steps away. Exercise facilities, cocktail bar, and outdoor heated pool are also available, complimentary wi-fi is available in all public areas, and guests have free wi-fi service their sleeping rooms. Conference room rates are $135/night, single or double occupancy, plus taxes and fees. Parking is $15/day. There is complimentary hotel shuttle service from 7:00am to 10:00pm to San Diego International Airport. Amenities at the Courtyard include the Bistro, which is open for breakfast and dinner serving gourmet fare, grab-n-go meals, and a Starbucks espresso bar. A 24-hour Market features snacks, beverages, toiletries, and more. Guests can enjoy the fitness center, the outdoor heated pool and spa, and free wi-fi throughout the property. Conference room rates are $189/night, single or double occupancy, plus tax. Parking is $17/day. Hours of operation for the complimentary airport shuttle are 5:00am to noon and 3:00pm to 9:00pm daily. For pick up from the San Diego International Airport, call the Front Desk at 619-260-8500 for directions to the Pick Up area and an estimated time of pick up.

FREE CONFERENCE SHUTTLES
Free shuttles will circulate continuously between the KIPJ building and the Old Town hotels from 7:30 am-8:00 pm on Thursday, 7:30 am-5:00 pm on Friday, and 7:30 am-5:30 pm on Saturday. Simply walk out of the entrance to your hotel or the KIPJ building between these hours and board a Goldfield Stage or University of San Diego shuttle to get to your destination.

SHAFR and the media occasionally record conference sessions for use in broadcast and electronic media. Presenters who do not wish for their session to be recorded may opt out when submitting a proposal to the Program Committee. An audience member who wishes to audiotape or videotape must obtain written permission of panelists. SHAFR is not responsible for unauthorized recording. SHAFR reserves the right to revoke the registration of anyone who records sessions without appropriate permissions.
