Celebrating SHAFR’s Fiftieth Anniversary
In 1967, a small group of foreign relations historians founded the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. Fifty years later, we celebrate the vibrant community that has resulted from their efforts. SHAFR celebrated this anniversary with the following activities at the 2017 SHAFR Conference, June 22-24, in Arlington, VA.
THURSDAY, JUNE 22
- SHAFR 50th Anniversary Roundtable (Studio B), 2:00 – 3:45 PM
Chair: Tim Borstelmann, University of Nebraska, Lincoln
Kristin Hoganson, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Carol Anderson, Emory University
Daniel Immerwahr, Northwestern University
Lloyd Gardner, Rutgers University
- Welcome Reception and SHAFR 50th Anniversary Celebration (Second Floor Reception Area), 6:00 – 7:30 PM
50 for 50
We hope that members will consider making a financial “thank you” to SHAFR in honor of its 50 years of growth and success. Though the slogan “50 for 50” suggests a $50 gift, any amount, such as $5 from a graduate student, will be greatly appreciated. More generous gifts can, of course, go further toward building our organization’s future. SHAFR has for a half-century offered a vibrant and supportive intellectual home for its members. The organization aims to continue its influential work in promoting U.S. international history and the careers of its members. All contributions are tax-deductible.
